Intake: begin with your van and your life

Start with the facts and goals that make this build yours:

  • Van make, model, year, wheelbase, roof height, and configuration
  • Who will travel in it, and for how long
  • Climate, terrain, and travel style
  • Sleeping, cooking, seating, storage, and work needs
  • Skills, tools, timeline, and budget goals
  • Known measurements, purchases, and non-negotiables

Initial vehicle support is focused on Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, Ford Transit, and Ram ProMaster. Coverage may vary by exact configuration.

What this step should produce: a shared starting point, plus a clear list of facts that still need confirmation.

Requirements: decide what the build must do

Ideas become useful when they are expressed as requirements. Vansembly helps sort must-haves, preferences, limits, and open questions.

For example, "I want a comfortable galley" might become requirements for fridge capacity, counter space, water use, ventilation, aisle clearance, and power. That makes later choices easier to compare—and easier to explain.

What this step should produce: prioritized requirements and decision criteria for the rest of the build.

Layout: make the whole space work together

Work through zones for sleeping, cooking, storage, seating, utilities, and movement. The goal is not simply to place boxes on a floor plan; it is to understand how the space will feel and function in daily use.

A larger galley may reduce aisle or storage space. A fixed bed may create a garage but constrain seating. Vansembly is intended to keep these relationships visible while the layout develops.

What this step should produce: a layout direction, key dimensions to verify, and the tradeoffs you have accepted.

Products: compare components against the plan

Choose major components in the context of your own requirements. A fridge, heater, fan, battery, water tank, or window is not "best" on its own—it is a better or worse fit for a particular build.

Vansembly is designed to bring relevant specifications and sourced comparisons into the decision, while showing missing or uncertain information. Product details and availability can change; manufacturer documentation remains the authority for current product details and installation requirements.

What this step should produce: candidate products, reasons for each choice, source references, and checks to complete before purchase.

Conflicts and tradeoffs: see what each choice changes

Connected plans need connected checks. When a product or layout decision changes, Vansembly is intended to help identify possible effects on:

  • Physical fit and service access
  • Electrical demand and system sizing (planning estimates for decision support—not final engineering)
  • Weight and weight distribution (planning estimates to verify—not certified load analysis)
  • Water, ventilation, heating, or cooling needs
  • Cost and procurement
  • Installation order
  • Other requirements you have already set

This is decision support, not guaranteed compatibility or engineering validation. Some conflicts can be flagged from reliable specifications; others require a real measurement, a current manual, or professional review. Vansembly does not guarantee that every conflict will be found.

What this step should produce: visible consequences, open checks, and an informed decision—not false certainty.

Sequence: turn the plan into build order

A good component choice can still create rework if it is installed at the wrong time. Vansembly is designed to help arrange the work around dependencies: what must be measured, ordered, routed, framed, tested, or inspected before another task can begin.

Where electrical choices appear in the sequence, treat any sizing, routing notes, or diagrams as planning estimates and decision support. Verify against current manufacturer instructions, applicable codes, and a qualified professional before purchase, cut, or connect. Vansembly does not automate certified wiring designs or claim ABYC (or other standards) compliance for your build.

The sequence can include procurement needs, prerequisites, and hold points for checks. It should remain editable because real builds rarely follow the first plan exactly.

What this step should produce: a practical next-actions list and a build sequence that explains why the order matters.

Live build companion: keep deciding as reality changes

The plan comes into the workshop with you. Record an actual measurement, swap an unavailable product, note a completed task, or revisit an assumption. Vansembly is intended to show which related choices may need attention rather than letting the original plan drift out of date.

It does not perform or inspect the work. It helps you keep the decisions, evidence, questions, and next steps together while you build.

What this step should produce: a living record of the build and a clear next decision.

A simple example: choosing a fridge

A fridge choice can look isolated. It is not.

  1. Your travel style and food-storage needs set the capacity requirement.
  2. Candidate dimensions affect the galley and aisle.
  3. Ventilation and service clearances affect cabinet design.
  4. Power demand affects electrical planning (as estimates to verify—not a final system design).
  5. Price and lead time affect budget and procurement (use sourced context; confirm current seller terms before buying).
  6. Final dimensions affect when the cabinet can be built.

Vansembly's role is to help you follow those connections, record why you chose what you chose, and flag what still needs verification. It should not tell you that a product is guaranteed to fit when the evidence cannot support that conclusion.
